Burl wood sculpture…Nature re-worked

Burls by their very nature are twisted, feature-rich chunks of wood. And I personally love their variations of color and texture.  This Bay Laurel burl is no exception.

The more figured a piece of wood is, the simpler the design should be. The two should not be in conflict. Here, the design is intended to augment and showcase what Nature worked so hard to perfect.

I was influenced in naming the piece by the sandstone geological formation in Arches National Park near Moab, UT.
