Morph IV

Tulip-inspired

When I began this piece, I envisioned a stylized tulip just awakening, just opening up.

Challenging tunnel-center

Simple though that may sound and look, it challenged me throughout the creation process. Why?  A long vertical tunnel runs the entire length of the piece.  Then it splits open and curls in on itself in a decreasing radius curve.  Additionally risky?  The very thin wall thickness and unsupported elements, plus the fact that it is worked in Cherry (not known for structural integrity).

The piece speaks to me.  I feel it is beautiful.  I love its curves and upward sweep, bottom to top.  That it is fragile does not deter me.  I am sure I will be crazy like this again, that I will use this style of motion again.
