AACG Rising Star 2013 Update

AACG Rising Star 2013 Update

GlassWeekend2013 was staged at WheatonArts and Cultural Center in Millville, NJ, in June. It was co-presented by the Creative Glass Center of America and the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (AACG).

Wheaton Village, a perfect and delightful venue, is set within colonial style buildings nestled among tall pines.  At night it is quite magical with pierced-tin lanterns strung above the pathways that lace the Village together.  Gaye and I took some time out to really enjoy the grounds.

The exhibition space housed 15 of the top glass galleries in the United States.  They showed some of the most exquisite glass art I have ever seen, created by the top glass artists from around the world.  It was an honor to have my work featured by Thomas R. Riley Galleries and be included among these luminaries.

The highlight of the weekend was to be recognized as an AACG Rising Star in the field, along with a very talented group of seven other glass artists at dinner on Saturday night.

The auction was lively and a lot of fun.  My donated piece Blue Shift brought the highest price of the evening.

Earlier in the day, my presentation on my personal background and inspiration for my work was very well attended.  And the Q & A revealed great interest in my process.

GlassWeekend2013 was comfortable and relaxed with the ability to spend extended time talking with collectors, fellow artists and gallery owners.  We also attended a number of exciting glass blowing demonstrations.

All around, it was a really fun and rewarding weekend.  Again, I extend my deepest gratitude to Betsy Ehrenberg, Jerry Silverstein and Glass Alliance New Mexico for nominating me for the Rising Star program and to all those who made the trip possible.
