Opening night tonight, November 6, and for the next three days, the Thomas Riley Galleries will exhibit five of my sculptures, 4 in cast glass and 1 in wood – Enigma, Midnight Moves, Red Shift, Ode to Morph, and Morph VI in black cherry wood. This is the 9th consecutive year my work has been represented at SOFA and the second time my two styles of sculpture will be exhibited in the same year.
If you’re in Chicago between Nov 6 thru 9th, please join me at SOFA Chicago at Navy Pier. I’ll be in the Thomas R. Riley exhibit space with five of my sculptures. And on Saturday, the 8th, at 1 pm, I’ll be giving a lecture about my work and artistic journey from wood to glass sculpture.
My wood art first appeared at SOFA Chicago 2006 represented by two galleries and in a curated special exhibit entitled The Presence of Absence. My glass sculptures were first represented at SOFA Chicago 2011. This year I’m beyond honored to be telling my “transition” story as part of the SOFA Chicago 2014 Lecture Series.
My glass sculpture, Limoncelli, is already happily ensconced in her new home. A big “thank you” to the collectors for sending this photo. Come read the instructive story of this acquisition.
With SOFA Chicago 2013 opening on October 31 at Navy Pier, it will really be eight straight years that my work has been represented there. First my wood art, now my glass sculptures. What an honor and privilege. Hope to see you there to help me celebrate!
Red Shift: On previous works, I had been noticing hints of shapes and colors being projected onto one side of the piece by design structures on the other side of the piece. With Red Shift, I intentionally planned for that occurrence and chose a glass that does dramatic color shifts depending on the thickness.
